  • Directorate vacancies are published on either the ACTPS jobs site www.jobs.act.gov.au or the Directorate's intranet site e-mployment depending on the type of vacancy. Full information is provided on the home page of e-mployment
  • Applications for all positions must be sent to the web address listed on the site where the position was advertised either jobs@act.gov.au or det.employment@act.gov.au.

Working with Vulnerable People checks

Many roles within the Directorate require a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011.

The Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 was amended on 8 April 2020 to enable the automatic extension of registrations held by registered card holders expiring on, or after, 16 March 2020 for a period of up  to six months after the end of the declared health emergency.

What does this mean for registered people?

All WwVP registered card holders will be provided with an automatic extension and do not need to take any action to extend/renew their registration as it has been automatically extended. A confirmation notice from Access Canberra will be provided to registered card holders advising them of this extension. This notice is the evidence that they remain registered, regardless of the expiry date on their registration card. Employees should retain the notice from Access Canberra in a medium which enables it to be provided as evidence of registration at any time, in lieu of a current registration card.

What does this mean for principals/managers?

You should familiarise yourself with the above changes, and implement changes to your standard management controls as appropriate to ensure current registration of employees by requesting to sight or take a copy of the confirmation notice they will receive from Access Canberra, confirming extension to their registration.
