Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

EAP provides workers with 6 free sessions for short term, confidential and professional coaching. This free service is available to workers (contractors, casuals, permanent and temporary) and their immediate family/household.

The ACT Government has engaged four organisations to provide professional recognised Employee Assistance Programs (EAP). The EAP provides independent, confidential and professional counselling services for work related or personal problems.

EAP can assist with the following:

  • Mental health
  • Career Transition
  • Conflict resolution
  • Leadership, culture and change
  • Conflict
  • Family challenges such as divorce, serious illness or a death in the family
  • Personal issues with your partners or other people close to you

There are two levels of EAP you can access -

Employee Assist

Provides confidential counselling, coaching and support for employees and their family members for a board range of work and life issues.

Manager Assist

Support and coaching for Managers, Principals and Supervisors in dealing with people issues that present on a daily basis. This can be around a range of issues such as performance, conflict, communication, individual or team behaviour.

When making contact with the EAP be sure to advise what stream you will need the counsellor to be familiar with and explain what issues you would like addressed and the counsellor needs to be experienced in. If you find that the counsellor you are allocated too, isn’t the right fit for you, we encourage you to request another counsellor to be able to meet your needs adequately.

About the Program

Next step is a free and confidential psychological support service which helps you get quick and easy access to the best type of mental health support to meet your individual needs.

How Does the Program Work?

At your first appointment, your Next step worker will complete an assessment with you and develop a program tailored to your individual needs. Appointments occur face to face or over the phone.
