Ministerial, Cabinet and Legislative Assembly Services

Minister

The Ministerial and Commonwealth Relations section supports the Director-General and Senior Executive Team through the coordination of briefs and correspondence proceeding through to the Minister’s office. This includes:

  • the co-ordination of all Ministerial and Director-General correspondence; and
  • the co-ordination of responses to Questions on Notice and Questions Taken on Notice.

The unit co-ordinates the portfolio legislation and Directorate responsibilities regarding Cabinet and Legislative Assembly business.

Cabinet

The Ministerial and Commonwealth Relations section provides the first and central contact point for the Directorate, the Cabinet Office in the Chief Minister and Treasury Directorate and other agencies on Cabinet Business. This includes:

  • the co-ordination of, and advice on Directorate Cabinet papers;
  • co-ordination of Directorate responses to external Cabinet papers; and
  • providing Cabinet forecasts for the Directorate.

Templates for these are available to central office staff are located in the Directorate's template's folder in MS Word format. School based staff can contact the unit to have the template emailed to the school.

ACT Legislative Assembly

The unit co-ordinates Assembly Inquiry submissions and responses, papers for Assembly committee hearings, Minister’s Question Time Fact Sheets and responses to Questions on Notice and Questions Taken on Notice.

Commonwealth Relations

The Ministerial and Commonwealth Relations section also co-ordinates the strategic relations for the Directorate within the ACT and national education and training agendas. This involves the provision and co-ordination of quality advice to support ACT’s representation on major national committees, including:

  • the Standing Committee on School Education and Early Childhood (SCSEEC);
  • the Australian Education, Early Childhood Development and Youth Affairs Senior Officials Committee (AEEYSOC); and
  • AEEYSOC Working Groups.

The section is also responsible for providing secretariat support for key ACT Advisory Committees, such as the:

  • Government Schools’ Education Council (GSEC); and
  • the Council of Parents and Citizens Associations’ meetings with the Directorate.
